About me

Welcome!

I'm Zoltan Kozma, founder and CEO of Retroger Furniture ART. Born in Hungary in 1979,  I've been passionate about design, craftmanship, and automobiles for as long as I can remember.
At eighteen, I designed and built my first car - a lightweight  and powerful roadster of my own design, which I named Hannibal. The 720 kg roadster was built with a 320 hp Cosworth engine.

While still a student, I founded my first business, producing additional versions of the Hannibal Roadster as well as Lotus Seven replicas and other custom-built vehicles.

In 2003, I organized an expedition retracing the legendary journey of the Punic general Hannibal. Driving one of my own Hannibal Roadsters and accompanied by several support vehicles, we covered more than 17,000 kilometers across Africa and Southern Europe in just 42 days. The adventure received widespread international media attention.

In the years that followed, I expanded into designing and manufacturing unique transport and food trailers in addition to my automotive creations. My products found enthusiastic buyers across Europe and the United States. A great advantage of my work has always been my ability to personally oversee every stage - from the first sketch to the finished product - whether it's a sculpture, a piece of furniture or a vehicle. That remains true to this day.

In 2006, after new European restrictions on custom car production, I moved to the United States at the invitation of American partners. Settling in Oregon, I co-founded a joint venture with Dan Richer, head of the US automobile manufacturer Fiberfab.
USA Custom Car Builders quickly took me on and I developed valuable friendships and professional relatioships, including with Bob Kallio, founder of Midstates Cobra, and work ed with Shell Valley Cobra and several other American custom car manufacturers.

Among other things, I designed and built the entire body of the Milner Flying Car with Dan Richer.

Meanwhile I continued to produce food trailers and other unique products, sculptures and furnitures, bringing a lot of joy to my customers.

In 2012, I left the United States with a heavy heart and moved to Germany for family reasons, where I married and began a new chapter of my creative journey. Around that time, I turned my focus toward furniture design, responding to growing demand for high-quality oil barrel furniture. Drawing on my automotive background, I also developed a line of car-inspired furniture, including the VW Sofa, Cobra and Mustang collections.

Thanks to the exceptional quality and durability of my creations, demand grew rapidly, and my workshop has remained busy for more than a decade. In 2016, at the request of Volkswagen, we began a collaboration that started with the legendary T-1 furniture line and later expanded to include my own designs. For the past nine years, I've enjoyed a close and succesful partnership with the Brisa -Vw Collection team. Today, my furniture can be found in homes and collections around the world - from the United States to New Zealand.

Every product is handcrafted and personally inspected by me. For small furniture series, I create the first piece myself; my trusted partners then reproduce the design under my supervision, and I personally complete the final assembly and quality inspection, confirming each piece with my signature.

Because of this hands-on approach, my production capacity is limited - but it ensures the highest quality. Many of my clients are returning customers, and over the years, many have become dear friends.

Please take a look at the furniture showcased on my website, and feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas. In addition to the models presented here, I am always open to designing and crafting custom, one-of-a-kind pieces.

I hope you enjoy exploring my work.

Sincerely yours,
Zoltan Kozma
